The Right Book Is the Wrong Book

I’ve read quite a few books that tell me how to be a successful writer; most of these books are along the line of yes, you can do it if you try!.

I have to say, though, that one of the best books I’ve read so far on writing has been one to say you’re probably a crummy writer and you should stay far away from the publishing world.

Yes, I’m speaking of Thanks, But This Isn’t for Us: A (Sort of) Compassionate Guide to Why Your Writing is Being Rejected.

This book takes on the unpleasant task of describing truly awful writing that appears to be good. It is the necessary pail of cold water to the reluctant face, to the writer who thinks his work somehow can use trite, cliche writing and still sign a six figure advance.

Oh, ouch. Its’ so painful, and yet I’m enjoying it.
