The Indelible Stain

I will tell you a story…

Back in high school we had “hall monitors” (but we were a garden campus, so they were on sidewalks).

One of them was a German lady in her 50s. I got to know her a bit,

She told me she was raised in Germany in the 30s and 40s, and one of the highlights of her young life was to shake Herr Hitler’s hand.

And then she said later she wished she’d never done so, because it left an indelible stain that she spent every night scrubbing, but it would not go away.

“Here,” she said. “Look.”

I looked. “There is no stain.”

“It is here,” she responded, tapping her heart. “I can never forget what I did, and I can never wash it away.”

White Evangelicals, you’ve embraced Trump.

You’ll never wash that away.
