I have mo words, yo

Like I expected, having a break from pushing myself into kreyòl helped settle things in my mind. Yesterday I was explaining to my tutor how to make Greek cheeses and Greek food—in kreyòl! And then today my other tutor decided to give me a “pop quiz” — fifty questions to answer, all given orally, not in written form, so I had to listen and then repeat the question, and then answer the question.

Goodness, it was a brain workout! I got about 90% of them right away, and responded not just with an inverted sentence (“What is your name?” “My name is Stefan”) but “Are you married?” to “Yes, I’m married, and my wife’s name is Tina.”

A couple at the end threw me. “What do you like to do in your spare time?” and “If you had the power, what body part would you change?” (I did not answer well to that because I would just want to be taller, and that could just mean very long ankles.)

Anyway, I’m pretty happy with hitting another level of understanding. The lessons are enjoyable again, even though yes they’re still tough.

I’m really starting to think I might become fluent-ish in this language.
